Breaking Away From Routines

We are fortunate to have such great neighbors. Throughout the winter, Chris will occasionally come home with a piece of artwork that he made while at Billy's. Billy's mom seems to never tire of coming up with creative ideas and implementing them with the boys. I used to do that back when I had one or two kids. And I think part of me digresses this task now to Billy's mom because her ideas are way more creative than mine and she has more patience to deal with the boys, the predictable mess that will result, and anyway, she's a teacher so no wonder she is so good at it.

Yesterday, the boys enjoyed a leisurely day of swimming and playing. That would have been enough for me, but Billy's mom decided a craft project was in order and suggested the boys paint rocks. And yes, I parted with some of my best beach stones, but those are bountiful and days like this sometimes can't be replaced.

Today's agenda? It's Joey's 6th birthday, and because I stop the tradition at 5 years of age, I don't have to do this today. We will go out to eat tonight at the restaurant of his choice, have cake (and eat it, too!), and the boys will probably be fighting over his birthday present.
