Bunking

While the boys are on summer vacation, we have not enforced a strict bedtime and have let them even play musical beds. Christopher and Joey usually sleep in the twin beds in the Snoopy room, but have more or less been bunking with Jeffrey in his bed. Tommy, meanwhile, had his mattress moved from the top bunk and set it up on the floor. When he's not sleeping there, he sleeps on one of the sofas. They can enjoy this laissez-faire bedtime ritual until school starts, when it will be put to an end.

The television is in the 'gathering room' until school starts, at which time, it will be removed. Many a night finds them watching TV quietly before falling asleep.

Last night, I was heading to bed when Tommy and Christopher came downstairs. They had to take advantage of the extra Wheel of Wow spin on Webkinz. "Are Joey and Jeffrey asleep?" I asked. "Yes," they told me. So I went up to check on them.

I found Joey fast asleep lying vertical at the foot of Jeffrey's bed. Normally, Jeffrey falls asleep in his bed, but instead, he was sprawled across a makeshift bed of some sort: two crates, one on top of the other, and a child-size chair were next to each other, on top of which was a pillow, on top of which was a Jeffrey. Comfy.

Of course, I moved him to the comforts of his own bed and asked Tommy as he was coming back upstairs to bed if he actually intended to let Jeffrey sleep on crates. "It's a bunkalunk," he said.

A what?

"A bunkalunk." Laughter.

Aren't they just so intuitive? They can create makeshift beds AND add words to the English dictionary!
