Funcation!

We spent the week doing what we had planned, which was day trips. We enjoyed our daily excursions, but somehow it seems like we spent more money doing that versus going "on vacation" somewhere for a week. We also found it is more demanding doing the day trips because there is a greater expectation from the kids. What are we doing today? What's next? Go, go, go.

Here's a recap:

Monday:
We visited Canobie Lake Park for the second and last time this summer. Many of their rides required a minimum 48" height, and since Christopher was just shy of that, we gave him the half inch he needed to pass through. We stuffed two pairs of folded socks into his shoe, along with inserts and combined, it gave him the height he needed to keep that measuring stick from skimming over his head. He enjoyed the Yankee Cannonball roller-coaster and other great attractions along with Tommy. We visited Castaway Island and of course, rode the carousel more than once.

Tuesday:
With barely a minute to spare, and I am not kidding, we made the 8:25 AM train out of Lowell heading into Boston for the day. We visited the Museum of Science and later took the T over to Government Center, which is a stone's throw away from Faneuil Hall. While the entertainment was worth seeing, I had forgotten how crowded it could be during tourist season. Walking through Quincy Market was a challenge within itself to ensure everybody was together. But it was exciting and the boys enjoyed it, especially the performance from the Breeze Team, who invited Tommy to join them for their last stunt when one of them jumped over a row of individuals, including Tommy himself. We walked back to North Station and took the 4:10 PM train back to Lowell and headed home, but not before an attempt to enjoy dinner at Ruby Tuesday's at the Mall of New Hampshire. While the meal was good, the boys could have been better. Perhaps we tried to do too much all in one day. Still, we have great memories.

Wednesday:
We stayed closer to home and enjoyed playing miniature golf and riding the go-karts at Mel's. Unfortunately, Tommy didn't like their guideline of having to be 58" tall or at least 18 years of age to drive the go-karts and was indignant about not riding with one of us, so he missed out. But the rest of us went and we loved it. Our neighbors came along and enjoyed it also.

Thursday:
Despite the fact that it was way overcrowded and overpriced, the boys enjoyed the day at Water Country. Of course, for the first hour, Christopher did a great job of sulking because he had been admitted in the under 48" price, which required him to wear a life jacket for all rides. In the end, I wound up going to Guest Relations, explaining my dilemma and requesting to have him upgraded to the over 48" price, which would require a bright red stamp on his hand, and freedom to enjoy the rides without a bright orange flotation device around his neck. More than once he was stopped throughout the day by employees there to verify he had that stamp. I was water-logged by the time we got home, but nonetheless honored my promise to run the Moose Hill ring toss activity at the Londonderry Olde Home Day Kidz Nite.

Friday:
G took the boys to a matinee while I pruned the shrubs outside while procrastinating the much necessary task of putting together soccer teams for LYSA's U8 league. But tomorrow is another day.

All in all, it was a fun week! To see some highlights, go visit over here.
