Deep breath. Exhale. Smile. Walk away.
There they go, off to school for another year. It truly is one of my most favorite days. Oh, don't get me wrong. I love them, I do. From here to the moon and back again.
But it is time. Time for quiet and less chaos at the Stanley house. Time for two-on-one with Jeffrey and Joey, which will become one-on-one with my little Jeffrey after we see Joey off to Kindergarten each afternoon.
Change is hard, yes. More than once today, Joey and Jeffrey asked when they were coming home. Hard to believe they could miss them already, but perhaps they weren't used to the sudden quiet and the noise level down to less than a dull roar. I'm sure they will adapt to the days without their brother-heroes. If I can do it, surely they can, too. One day at a time.
School is a good, good thing.
