We are slowly recovering from our water issue in the basement. G has been working nonstop all weekend reinstalling the subfloor and there is one small section left. I doubt I will see the table in my dining room for another week and will again just clean around it.
Yesterday I had the privilege and honor of sponsoring a good friend's daughter as she made her Confirmation. It resulted in me being gone for nearly 6 hours in the day, leaving G to deal with energetic little boys, but they survived.
Angela and the other Confirmandis had their ceremony take place at St. Marie's Church in Manchester. Unfortunately, the photos on their website don't measure up to the beauty of the church and seeing it in person. What an unbelievable and spectacular church this is. One can easily get distracted from listening to the sermons and readings by letting her eyes wander and take in all the detail and exquisite beauty of the church and still not see it all. I think I was careful to balance my attention to both. I notice little things. For instance, I noticed out of all those receiving their Confirmation, a total of 29 boys and 32 girls, one name was accidentally omitted from the program. I broke the news to her gently and she still wanted to take a program home after the service was over. And apparently my boys have very common names, because of the 29 boys, there was one each of a Thomas, Christopher, Joseph, and Jeffrey.
Yes, I can still tell you what the Bishop's sermon was about even with all my self-induced distractions.
Anyway, I had made Angela's card and on a whim, included this photo that I pulled out my box of old photos. It is me on my Confirmation day, May 10, 1983. I think the only thing the same from how the procedure was done then compared to now is the Bishop's hat and staf!
