I was driving Jeffrey to get his blood tested yesterday because at his physical last month the finger prick test showed his blood was low in iron. No surprise there, as I am slightly anemic myself, but the doctor referred us to get a more thorough test. Anyway, perhaps Jeffrey had the color red on his mind and from behind me, he asked, "Are hearts red?"
"Sure, hearts are red."
"Is MY heart red?"
"Yes."
Jeffrey contemplates my answer for a moment. "I'm not a girl. Red is a girl heart."
"All hearts are red."
"No, I'm a boy. Boys don't have red hearts."
"Oh. What color hearts do boys have?" This is news to me, that only girls have red hearts. I'm curious just to know the heart color of the male gender population.
"Boys have brown hearts."
Sometimes you just never know what you can learn from a 4-year-old. Aren't you glad boys' hearts aren't black?
Joan Jett is a girl, and she had a black heart... several of them I think :-)
