In Pieces

Jeffrey, my 20-month-old, gets his hands on whatever he is determined to have, even if it is well out of reach. He is very creative about climbing up, over, under and using whatever piece of furniture or object within reach to accomplish the unthinkable.

Can we even blame him for the stove breaking? I mean, can one little marble tossed from the hand of a toddler at the oven door really have enough strength to shatter it? Sure, why not? That was the first item to break.

Then several ornaments from the Christmas tree. I have lost count as of today, but I can't blame every loss on him, as the dog has been guilty of choosing his fare off the tree on which to chew and break.

Tuesday afternoon, Jeffrey climbed up onto a kitchen chair, opened the microwave door, and took out the glass plate. That landed on the floor in pieces. I have yet to get a replacement. In the meantime, G insists the entire appliance is now broken, because things aren't heating up as they normally do. Oh well, that would only be a mere $100 replacement to the $500 we spent for the new stove. But I don't think it's broken. Yet. Just that glass plate.

Wednesday found Jeffrey gazing out the living room window. Curiosity got the better of him, and he decided to pull the mutton bars off, breaking t hem. G did glue them back and they are back in place, but we can't predict for how long.

Yesterday, right after I drank my last sip from my coffee mug, Jeffrey climbed onto the table, picked up the mug, and tossed it onto the floor. Corell does not NOT break. Maybe not into a million pieces, but it still breaks, as the proof was there on my kitchen floor. Down one matching coffee mug. Not a huge loss, and we move on to today's item.

Onto the dining room buffet he climbed to see what I had hidden in the soup touraine. This invaluable item was given to us from friends when we got married, and honestly, I am quite amazed it has made it this long without so much as a chip. Well, I should have known that Jeffrey was obviously on a roll with his unbreakable streak (haha), and as I went to get him off the furniture, the soup touraine lid fell to the floor in 6 pieces. I suppose I can make an attempt to glue it back together, as it was always a decorative item and never used for its actual purpose. But it will never be the same.

What do you think tomorrow's item will be?
