My objective was to make the project complete in as less time as possible, with minimal painting and finishing. The top half of the wall was painted Muslin. Beige, to be straight about it. Luckily, I still had some left from the first time I did it, so after priming the graffiti, I touched up the areas needed and it all blended nicely. No need to repaint the entire four walls.
The bottom half was a Hollyhock Red. I could have kept it, but I figured I'd use my free unused can of Navy paint I got from Freecycle. So I primed the red and repainted, with just enough to finish.
Now for the section where the two colors meet. I already vetoed a border and considered a chair rail, but even that could get costly, and I'd have to stain the wood. I considered a horizontal stripe going all around, but thought it would be boring. What could I put there that would be inexpensive, yet add something interesting, like -- texture. Yes, texture. Martha would be proud. Maybe?
So I got some clear contac paper, cut 1" strips, and applied them along the Muslin and Navy "seam" all around the room. Next, I put my handy glue gun to use and glued cinnamon sticks to the contac paper.
Well, what do you think? I still can't decide if it is really cool or really tacky. Tommy already asked me what I was doing to his room, but Joey and Jeffrey thought it was really cool. So go ahead, don't hold back. My feelings won't be hurt if you think it is absolutely absurd. Hence the contac paper, for easy removal.
I think I kind of like it, actually. But does his room smell like cinnamon?? And if they do smell good enough to eat, how would you stop someone like Chewy from just helping himself to a snack?? :) Ha ha!
ReplyDeleteYou know that the cinnamon sticks will be eaten off the wall before the 4th of July, don't you? Otherwise, it's a creative idea.
